WHITSTABLE beat local rivals
Faversham on Saturday with a
late onslaught.
It was Faversham who took
the initiative and, after some
good work by their pack, went
over for their first try and
conversion to go 7-0 up.
Faversham were all over Blues
as they were not allowed to p l ay
their game.
A tweak in the pack enabled
Blues to win a free-kick and start
to move forward.
James Collins made a break
and passed to Olly Day, who
offloaded to Rob Maxted. He
made his run from just inside
the halfway line, found himself
two against one, but managed to
hand off the last tackle and go
over for Blues’ first try.
In the second half Blues again
started slowly. However, in a
great move, Will Bettles drove
forward ten metres and offloaded
the ball to Maxted, who went
over for his second try.
Bettles pushed forward again
and made another good pass to
Ben Cliff, who ran for the line.
He was brought down by a trysaving
tackle but Whitstable’s
Josh Booty was on hand to pick
up the ball and go over for their
third try with Charley Collins
kicking the conversion points.
Blues were not finished and,
after winning a lineout in
Fave r s h a m ’s area, the ball came
back to be picked up by Charley
Collins, who gritted his teeth
and went for Blues’ fourth try,
increasing the lead to 22-7.
In the last few minutes Olly
Day passed to Booty, who
crashed over for Blues’ fifth try,
expertly converted by Collins.
