Biggest win of the season

Whitstable romped to their biggest win of the season on Saturday and in the process exorcised a few demons from the previous week.

Player-coach Mal Graves had wanted a reaction after the disappointing 24-3 defeat at Foots Cray, and the Blues responded by running in 10 tries against a side who have now lost all 20 of their games.

Three of those were scored by skipper Ben Cliff, who admitted it was a good to put the Foots Cray result behind them in such clinical fashion.

He said: "We were disappointed at Foots Cray, it was poor finish as much as anything but on Saturday we played a lot better.

"We stared quite positively but then they attached for a bit it shook everyone up, it was like 'oh crikey, it's not just going to be a walk int he park'.

"We attached quite well, we looked good in the back line, they were throwing the ball around quite freely which was good to see after the previous week. but Sheppey's heads never dropped and their score cam from the last play of the match. I couldn't begrudge them because they deserved it."

Sheppey's cause was not helped by the first-half dismissal of their skipper, for swearing at the referee and the also picked up a couple of yellow cards as they wilted under Whitsable pressure.

nevertheless they had the final word, when a Whistable player was yellow carded for a high tackle and the visitors went over from a quick tap.

Andy Till weighed in with two tries and there was one apiece for Dan Till, Matt Hall, impressive second row Rob Hudson, Tony Cairney and teenager Greg Johnson, the latter trio all getting on the score-sheet for the first time this season.

march Olive, who took on the kicking duties from Andrew Huey, added six conversions as Whitstable recorded their fifth win if the campaign.

The result leave them eighth in Kent 1 ahead of their final home, at home to Old Gravesendians on Saturday.

The Blues lost 38-17 to OGs on the opening day but Cliff says they will definitely be looking to end the season with a flourish.

He said: "When we played them earlier in the season it was tit for tat in the first half before they ran away with it in the second but i think we're in a better place tham we were then."
