Whitstable RFC played Brockleians in the Kent Vase Final held at Merton Lane, Canterbury.
Whitstable without a trophy for 21 years, were looking to stop Brockleians 14 match unbeaten run.
The first half was a very tight affair with each side probing to establish dominance, good handling skills by both sides were snuffed out by solid defending. However it was Whitstable who got the only try of the half through Second Row, Matt Hall on 30 mins, with a strong carry and led 5 –nil at the half.
Brockleians struck back within 5 mins of the start of the half with a converted try to lead 7 –5, their lead was short-lived as Whitstable slotted home a penalty by No.10 Andrew Huey to regain a lead which they never surrendered.
Three further tries by Brandon House , Ben Cliff and Bobby Powell, as belief and confidence shown by the pack and hard running backs established a commanding lead. A late consolation try by Brockleians was no more than they deserved but the day belonged to a resurgent Whitstable team led by Captain Sam Churchyard.
Final Score: Whitstable RFC 25 Brockleians RFC 14
